I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and I never imagined that I would ever hear that news "it's cancer"....at least not at the age of 45. In my eyes, it was something a woman of my mothers age and beyond would have to worry about. In the past year, I've been through so much but more importantly, I have learned so much. I have leaned that cancer would not define me but also that cancer knows no boundaries. I have met, and know, some extremely strong women that are still fighting and sadly, I have lost a good friend that lost her battle. I know that I am going to be on the "survivor" side of the statistics but there is no reason why everyone battling breast cancer can't be called a survivor.
It has taken me 46 years to find my purpose...but I am lucky enough to have found it. Komen started with one promise from one sister to another and I intend to help fulfill that promise. I have my mom, 3 sisters, 4 nieces, numerous cousins and aunts that I would walk through fire to make sure they will never have to experience the fear and unknown of a breast cancer diagnosis. Nothing would make me happier than to know that I was able to make a difference. Please help me join in the fight to find a cure.
